Cohu Eclipse Pick-and-Place Test Handler for sale

Cohu Test Handler EclipseThe Cohu Eclipse—offered under Cohu’s Delta Design brand—is a high-parallelism pick-and-place test handler designed to deliver high throughput for ambient and tri-temperature testing within a compact footprint. It is targeted at the final production testing of chips for the automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics sectors.

Architecture and Parallelism

The Eclipse utilizes a hybrid architecture combining gravity-feed and pick-and-place mechanisms. Devices are loaded from trays or tubes and transported to test stations via a pick-and-place system. The platform supports a configurable parallelism ranging from 1 to 16 test sites, with a rated throughput of up to 16,000 units per hour (UPH), depending on test time and configuration. This capacity places it among the higher-performing pick-and-place handlers, making it well-suited for high-volume production environments that require short test times and high output rates.

Temperature and Package Coverage

The Eclipse supports both ambient and tri-temperature testing configurations. The tri-temperature version covers a range from -40°C to +150°C (extendable to +175°C as an option), meeting the requirements for automotive-grade device testing. It accommodates packages typically ranging from 3×3 mm to 30×30 mm and is compatible with JEDEC trays, tubes, and bulk input, with output options including trays or tape-and-reel.

Vision and Software

Vision capabilities include 2D code reading, as well as orientation and fiducial (mark) detection, which facilitate traceability and error prevention. The system integrates with Cohu’s DI-Core platform, enabling predictive maintenance and production data integration. Standard ESD control features include balanced ionization, with higher-specification options also available.

Application Suitability

The Eclipse is best suited for high-volume production scenarios that involve tray or tube-fed devices, require short-to-medium test times, and demand high parallelism alongside tri-temperature testing capabilities. Both the Cohu MATRiX and the Eclipse belong to the high-parallelism "pick-and-place" category. The MATRiX offers a higher ceiling for parallelism (up to 32 sites) and a broader tri-temperature range (with an option reaching +175°C), while the Eclipse provides a more compact configuration tailored for medium-to-high parallelism requirements. For production lines focused on automotive MCUs, sensors, or power management ICs—where specific UPH (units per hour) targets must be met—the Eclipse stands out as a compelling option within Cohu’s product portfolio.
