DISCO DAD321

DISCO Dicing Saw DAD321The DISCO DAD321 is a compact dicing saw designed for workpieces up to 6 inches in diameter; it stands as a classic, pivotal model within DISCO’s product lineup. Rather than aiming for the extreme throughput of high-end platforms, the DAD321 offers a low barrier to entry and a robust mechanical foundation, capable of processing a wide range of materials—from silicon and glass to ceramics.

Its operational concept is clear: manual loading and alignment, followed by an automated dicing process. The operator handles the initial mounting and positioning of the workpiece, after which the machine automatically executes the dicing sequence. For research institutions or production lines characterized by high-mix, low-volume output, this semi-automated approach strikes an ideal balance between flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

In terms of mechanical specifications, the DAD321 is equipped with a 1.5 kW air-bearing spindle with a rotational speed range of 3,000 to 40,000 min⁻¹, accommodating workpieces up to 6 inches (Φ6") in diameter. It features an X-axis cutting stroke of 192 mm, a Y-axis stroke of 162 mm, a Z-axis repeatability of 0.001 mm, and a θ-axis rotation range of 380°. While these parameters may not be considered cutting-edge by today’s standards, they are more than sufficient for dicing conventional semiconductor wafers and electronic ceramics.

The primary reason for the DAD321’s widespread adoption is its ease of use. The user interface utilizes a CRT screen to guide operators through each step; in the event of an error, the system displays the cause and provides troubleshooting instructions. The interface supports three languages: Japanese, English, and Chinese. For safety, the machine incorporates hardware interlocks and complies with both the EC Machinery Directive and the EMC Directive. With a chassis width of only 500 mm, its compact footprint is highly advantageous in cleanroom environments where space is at a premium.

Serving as the benchmark for its successor, the DAD322, the DAD321’s high global installation count stands as a testament to its reliability—so much so that DISCO frequently cites the DAD321’s "widespread global use" as a validation for the DAD322. For scenarios requiring a robust, easy-to-use, and space-saving dicing saw to handle routine tasks, the DAD321 remains a practical choice.
