The DISCO DAD324, introduced to the market in 2019, is a 6-inch (Φ6") single-spindle precision dicing saw. Designed as a classic model, it delivers significant improvements in both efficiency and ease of use within an ultra-compact footprint. Serving as the successor to the DAD322, its primary objective is to elevate the throughput for dicing small-sized workpieces without compromising processing quality.
The gains in efficiency stem from a comprehensive overhaul of the underlying control system. All three axes—X, Y, and Z—are equipped with servo motors, resulting in substantially higher return speeds compared to the predecessor DAD322: the X-axis speed has increased from 500 mm/s to 800 mm/s, the Y-axis from 150 mm/s to 200 mm/s, and the Z-axis from 30 mm/s to 80 mm/s. A new Non-Contact Setting (NCS) system reduces the time required for measuring blade-tip height by 74% while simultaneously enhancing measurement accuracy, thereby effectively minimizing non-cutting auxiliary time. The machine comes standard with a 2.0 kW high-torque spindle (40,000 min⁻¹; rated torque: 0.48 N·m) capable of processing materials such as compound semiconductors, LEDs, glass, and ceramics. An optional 1.8 kW high-speed spindle is also available, extending the maximum rotational speed to 60,000 min⁻¹.
In terms of precision, the Y-axis indexing accuracy is 0.005 mm/160 mm (with a single-point error of 0.003 mm/5 mm), the Z-axis repeatability is 0.001 mm, and the motion resolution reaches 0.000002 mm. With a chassis width of just 490 mm, the DAD324 was marketed by DISCO as the world’s most compact dicing saw at the time of its release—a highly practical feature for cleanroom production lines that require multiple units to be arranged side-by-side to maximize output per unit of floor space. At the operational level, the XIS interface system integrates control buttons directly into the microscope view. Features such as autofocus, automatic calibration, and automated kerf inspection come standard, minimizing variability introduced by human intervention. For applications requiring a compact, robust, and highly efficient semi-automatic dicing saw—capable of handling standard dicing tasks for substrates up to 6 inches—the DAD324 builds upon the proven reliability of the DAD322, while delivering key enhancements in servo-driven precision and measurement efficiency.
