DISCO DAD3430

DISCO Dicing Saw DAD3430The DISCO DAD3430 is a discontinued 6-inch (Φ6") single-spindle automatic dicing saw. Within the DISCO 3000 series of compact dicing saws, it occupies a distinct position: it is a high-precision variant of the DAD3230 platform, engineered specifically for ultra-precision machining. It is officially targeted at applications—such as the dicing and grooving of optical components and magnetic heads—that demand exceptionally tight tolerances.

Key Differentiator: Air-Bearing X-Axis Guideway

The fundamental hardware distinction between the DAD3430 and the base DAD3230 model is the inclusion of an air-bearing (aerostatic) guideway on the X-axis. This configuration eliminates the "stick-slip" phenomenon and minute vibrations often associated with conventional mechanical guideways during low-speed feed operations. Consequently, it meets the rigorous surface quality and dimensional tolerance requirements for micro-grooving workpieces like optical components and magnetic heads. This feature is the primary reason the model is categorized within the series as a "high-precision, high-quality" machine.

Precision and Specifications

Supported by the air-bearing guideway, the Y-axis indexing precision reaches 0.0015 mm/160 mm (with a single-step error of 0.0005 mm/5 mm)—a significant improvement over the 0.005 mm/160 mm precision of the DAD3220 model in the same series. Other specifications are shared with the DAD3230: it accommodates 6-inch (Φ6") workpieces as standard, with support for 150 mm × 150 mm square workpieces as a special configuration. The X-axis cutting range is 160 mm (extendable to 220 mm as an option), with a maximum cutting speed of 300 mm/s. It is equipped with a 1.5 kW spindle (operating at 3,000–40,000 min⁻¹ with a rated torque of 0.48 N·m) and includes a standard spindle-locking mechanism; a low-thermal-expansion spindle is also available as an option to minimize thermal drift. Operation and Configuration

Automatic calibration, autofocus, and automatic kerf inspection come as standard features, while a touchscreen combined with a graphical user interface lowers the barrier to operation. Cutting water flow rates can be configured individually according to product-specific recipes, helping to prevent human error. The internal layout accommodates both a transformer and a UPS—a key distinction from the more compact DAD3220 model, which can house only one or the other. The machine measures 730 × 900 × 1,670 mm and weighs approximately 600 kg. For applications requiring optical-grade dicing precision on a 6-inch platform—along with a degree of expandability—the DAD3430 stood as the highest-precision option within DISCO’s compact product line prior to its discontinuation.
