Used TEL Prexa™ MS for sale
Product Detail
The TEL Prexa™ MS is a fully automated 300mm wafer prober from Tokyo Electron (TEL)’s Prexa series, specifically optimized for the wafer-level testing of memory devices—particularly advanced DRAM. Building upon the next-generation optical systems and automation capabilities of the Prexa platform, the MS model incorporates two critical enhancements tailored to the demands of memory testing: ultra-high load capacity and advanced heat-absorption control.
Core Positioning: An Enhanced Platform for Memory Testing
The relationship between the Prexa MS and the standard Prexa model can be described as a "base platform equipped with a specialized memory-testing suite." When TEL introduced the Prexa platform in 2021, it was intended to succeed the Precio series and support Known Good Die (KGD) testing for advanced packaging. The MS version further narrows its focus to memory applications; as the pin count for advanced DRAM continues to rise—along with the heat generated during testing—the load capacity and thermal control capabilities of conventional probers often become bottlenecks.
Key Specifications and Capabilities
Load capacity is the most significant differentiator for the MS model. It offers a standard probing load of 600 kg, which can be increased to 1,000 kg via an optional configuration. Combined with high-precision load control, this ensures full, simultaneous contact for devices with high pin counts. Furthermore, the heat-absorption control feature manages the thermal output of high-heat devices. Together, these capabilities make full-wafer contact testing a viable solution for next-generation memory devices.
In terms of fundamental precision, third-party data indicates an XY probing accuracy of ±0.8 μm, an improvement over the ±1.8 μm accuracy of the standard Prexa model.
Inherited Advanced Features
The MS version retains the core features of the Prexa series, including automated operation setup; high-precision contact facilitated by advanced optical systems and algorithms that minimize errors; high-speed inspection of probe tips and probe marks; and a software architecture designed to streamline customer support. In the context of the MS model, these features serve a singular purpose: to maintain high contact yields and throughput efficiency during mass-production testing, even as the pin density of memory devices continues to climb. Positioning and Assessment
The Prexa MS is not a "general-purpose" probe station; its design is specifically tailored for the high-volume testing of advanced DRAM and similar memory devices characterized by high pin counts and significant heat generation. For production lines primarily focused on logic chips or devices with low heat output, the standard Prexa model—with a load capacity of 300 kg (upgradable to 450 kg)—is more than sufficient. The additional features of the MS version only provide indispensable value when testing requirements involve loads approaching or exceeding 600 kg, and where thermal management has become a bottleneck for yield.
